1. Keeping your wheelchair's tires at the right pressure keeps it rolling smoothly and saves you energy when pushing. On the side of your tire, you'll see the recommended pound-force per square inch. It's easiest to fill the tires with air with a compressor.
2. Every three months, inspect all of the screws on your wheelchair. Screws on the back of your chair might loosen over time, posing a safety risk. It's also a good idea to double-check every screw on your wheelchair after a flight.
3. Use water and mild detergent solution to clean the chair's structure. Soap and water can be used to clean the backrest and cushion.
4. The majority of cushion covers may be machine washed and should be done once a week. This is critical for maintaining the health of your skin.
5. If necessary, remove the front casters for cleaning. Hair and other debris become caught in the front casters of a wheelchair, making it difficult to roll. Remove the bolt and spacers with a half-inch wrench, then clean out the hair and any other debris. When reinserting the bolt through the second side of the caster, needle nose pliers will come in handy.
